Jay's Spot
On the grow...
Since January '07, at South Plains Communications we have been in high gear keeping pace with the development of our Amarillo location. JayP is doing an incredible job of building and expanding the business from this new location. This task has been made easier, in part, because of the positive reception we have received from the people of Amarillo. Just as our customer base is experiencing a positive growth pattern so is the development of various services that we are able to offer. The latest technology that South Plains Communications is bringing to you is that of:
MOTOTRBO
This Motorola product is one of the latest developments in digital radio communication technology and we are pleased to be able to provide this equipment and service to our customers. For more information on this product see the article on page 2.
SPC PROJECTS
- SPCs' phase of the NEXTEL Rebanding 800 MHZ project, which includes Lubbock and Abilene, is completed. This project, which began in January of 2006, was part of a nationwide plan which was a result of Congressional legislation that called for massive frequency reorganization. Our role, like that of many two-way dealerships nationwide, was to switch channels with NEXTEL and to reprogram end-user radios.
- Two of the newest members to our staff are Jim Howell and Jonathan Bramlett. Both of these men serve on the SPC tower crew. Because of the skill, knowledge and integrity of these two men, our customers can be assured of quality work. We are grateful to have both of these men working with us.
- SPC has constructed a 200' self-supporting tower in Tahoka for Lyntegar Electric Coop.
At South Plains Communications we are committed to providing exemplary customer service by providing leadership in the two-way radio industry. We are dedicated to staying informed and knowledgeable not only of radio communication technology, equipment and service but also of the governmental legislation that affects the end-users.
The radio communication industry is in a constant state of change due to the rapid development of technology. However, it remains our goal to stay informed of these changes and to pass the information along to our customers.
MOTOTRBO (Moto-Turbo)
Professional Digital Two-Way Radio System by MOTOROLA
Within the last year, MOTOROLA has introduced the new MOTOTRBO system that incorporates digital technology with two-way communication. This form of technology takes radio communication a step forward by integrating voice and data information in a way that is more efficient than ever before. Features of the MOTOTRBO system include:
- Time-Division Multiple-Access technology which doubles the calling capacity. This money-saving feature is popular because for the price of one license the user gets twice the capacity.
- Text Messaging Services & GPS Tracking.
- Voice transmission is clearer.
- The versatility of this system allows users to operate either in the analog or digital format thus making the transition from analog to digital easier. Instead of immediately replacing an existing system the transition can occur at the customers pace.
- More control capabilities.
This system is an excellent alternative in markets such as:
- Business and Industrial
- Construction
- Transportation and Delivery
- Government Agencies and Public Administration
- Utilities
- Hospitals
Many companies and organizations are finding the digital format of MOTOTRBO an excellent solution to their radio communication needs.
Point of Interest... While this area has received a heavy amount of rainfall and a lot of lightning, we have experienced minimal damage to our systems, reason being, the good ground moisture has taken the hits to the ground instead of our equipment.
A-1 COMMUNICATIONS
In December 2006, South Plains Communications sold their Paging service to A-1 Communications of Amarillo. Jay Jenkins, President of SPC, and James Beckham, President of A-1 Communications, have diligently worked together to insure a smooth transition. Paging equipment has been upgraded and the coverage area has been expanded so as to better provide for customer needs. Making it even more convenient, A-1 Communications is located in the South Plains Communications facility. Of the transition, Jay Jenkins, Sr., President of South Plains Communications had this to say, "Handing the paging business over to James was a good decision. Lubbock customers can receive coverage in the Panhandle region while Amarillo customers can receive coverage on the South Plains, so it just a good fit for both regions. James is a good man and is dedicated to taking care of his customers, I really respect that."
Technically
Our technicians are frequently asked questions about the care and maintenance of radios, accessories and other equipment. This section of the newsletter is dedicated to helping provide answers to some of those questions.
1) Do I need a repeater?
It all depends upon the amount of coverage you need. Radio to radio coverage is limited to the power of the radio and the antenna it is using. A repeater, receives the signal then transmits it to another radio, in so doing the range of coverage is more than doubled.
2) What is digital equipment and can current equipment work with it?
Digital is the latest in radio communication technology. MOTOTRBO is a new TDMA product for the UHF customer. This technology introduces several new features to the two-way market. Current analog UHF equipment is not compatible with the new digital products. However, digital products are dual-mode, which makes them compatible with both analog and digital equipment.
3) Who will be affected by the FCC's change in Narrow Band Regulation?
All UHF and VHF channels will be required to be narrow band by January 1, 2012 to be compliant with FCC regulations. The 800 MHZ channels will not be affected.
